Security Camera resolution comparison

Nowadays, video Surveillance is advancing and moving towards the megapixel resolution of HD monitoring. There are now a wide range of cameras possessing the digital IP format or analogue technology.

Currently the resolution of these camera ranges from 1.3 megapixels and 2 MP, 3 MP and 5Mp. So, this article will be aimed at providing you with important information as regards the resolution format of security camera.

Resolution:

Resolution simply measures how the number of millions of pixels captured by the camera image sensor produces a digital image. The more megapixels captured by a camera, the better the image quality produced. In the conventional analog technology, Television line (TVL) provides the basic specification for analogue cameras. Analogue technology is turning out into digital technology giving a high resolution and an enhanced picture quality.

NTSC: 700 TVL = 976 (Horizontal) * 494 (vertical)= Approx 480k Pixels.

PAL: 700 TVL = 976 (Horizontal) * 582 (vertical) = Approx 570 pixels.

Here is a table that compares different resolutions

Though resolution is regarded as one of the most essential specifications, this doesn’t imply that it can provide a great surveillance solution.

Unlike the traditions digital cameras, IP cameras depends on network for video streaming i.e, it consumes some network bandwidth.

HD- CVI Camera

HD CVI means the High Definition Composite video interface. This is a newly evolving technology in the security camera industry which provides a different process of transmitting video signals over coaxial cables.

What benefit does the HD- CVI Camera offers?

Before the advent of HD- CVI technology, IP technology was the only used megapixel resolution solution for several years. Nowadays, HD CVI technology is changing the trend. Here are the advantages of HD-CVI camera technology. Read on:

Provides cost effective HD resolution:

HD CVI products are designed in a way that it provides a high megapixel resolution. The 720 P cameras have the ability to deliver images with up to 1.0 MP resolution which is double the traditional analog system.

It Support long range video transmission:

Another benefit of HD CVI technology is its ability to support long range loss-less video transmission reading up to 500 meters.

Simple design and better Stability:

HD CVI is a simple to use technology without any video latency video transmission. It’s one of the easiest systems among HD System. However, for  IPC and SLOC, the systems doesn’t just require the hard wire connection but as well needs users to configure the IP address, gateway and stay clear of Video latency, IP address conflict, incompatibility with some web browsers and other issue of software incompatibility etc.

Uses the close circuit transmission for higher security:

When it comes to high security for surveillance or video monitoring, the system used is naturally close-circuit and will not leak any data/video.

Also, IP technology uses the WAN network to transmit video, which means a better exposure to intrusion threats even after using encryption to protect data. CCTV surveillance is mostly used to prevent threats and better security.
